BACKGROUND
Cardiac networks are being established and developed in every
Strategic Health Authority area in England. The NHS Modernisation Agency
and the Department of Health have issued guidance to support local work
to develop strong, effective networks:
Establishing and Developing
Cardiac Networks, Coronary Heart Disease Collaborative March 2004 – www.modern.nhs.uk/chd
The objective in creating networks in the NHS is to bring together clinicians,
other professionals and managers from all the organisations so that they
can work together to improve services for patients. A network makes it
possible for clinicians and organisations to develop linkages and consistent
approaches across the whole of a patient’s potential experience
of services and over a large geographical area. It makes it easier to
gain a good view over the whole range of provision and of how the whole
system is working. |
THE NORTH WEST LONDON CARDIAC & STROKE NETWORK
The Cardiac Network in North West London was initially developed during late
2003 with the support of the Strategic Health authority and the Chief Executives
from each of the local organisations. The Network comprises a Board, chaired
by the Chief Executive of Hammersmith & Fulham PCT, which is ultimately accountable to the London wide PCT Chief Executive Group.
The Board consists of both clinical and non-clinical representatives
from across North West London covering primary care, secondary care,
tertiary care, commissioning, public health, the Strategic Health Authority
(public health, workforce & performance directorates), patient/carers
and London Ambulance Service. <CLICK

On 1 April 2005, the existing North West London Coronary Heart Disease
Collaborative Programme integrated with the Network, acting as its service
improvement arm. It will undertake service improvement activities both
within each of the local health economies and on a sector wide basis
to facilitate agreed Network priorities across North West London.
To reflect identified priorities, several sub-groups have been established
to take forward specific areas of work. The work of some of these sub
groups can be viewed on this website – <CLICK
