CARDIAC CHOICE
Cardiac choice is being extended nationally to offer all
patients requiring a coronary artery bypass graft, angioplasty
or heart valve operation, a choice of hospital. The choice
of hospital will be offered to the patient at the point
of referral by the Cardiologist after Angiogram confirming
the required treatment.
From April 2005, patients will have
the choice of one alternative hospital, increasing to a choice
of 4-5 alternatives by December 2005.
A considerable amount
of work has been underway across the NWLCN to develop a model
for delivering Choice to our residents. From 1 April, all North
West London residents will have the option of choosing between
5 centres for Angioplasty and 4 centres for coronary artery
bypass grafting and heart valve operation.
An information leaflet
detailing the choice options for North West London has been
developed.

Information Leaflet. Each of the centres identified as
a choice option for North West London, have identified
specific individuals to support patients as requested,
by providing advice and information to enable them to
make a decision on whether they wish to travel elsewhere
for their operation. This information is contained within
the above leaflet.
