REVASCULARISATION

A Revascularisation sub-group of the Network was established early on to take forward work in relation to this area. To inform their work plan, the Network commissioned an initial piece of work to review the burden of coronary heart disease and revascularisation rates across the Network. <CLICK HERE> to access a copy of the report.

Following this assessment, the Revascularisation group focused on delivering two main strands of work a) the development of a sector wide model for the delivery of a Primary Angioplasty service to all NW London residents and b) the reduction in delays for in-patient DGH transfers requiring admission for Angiography +/- Angioplasty, Electrophysiology, Device implants or Surgery.

London Cardiovascular Project

Advancing cardiovascular care for all Londoners: The London Cardiovascular (CV) Project aims to improve the delivery of care and patient pathways for Vascular services, Cardiac surgery and Cardiology.

The non-elective Cardiac Surgery project aims are:

Develop a new pathway that optimises an electronic referral system for inter-hospital transfer patients.

A significant proportion of cardiac surgery conducted in London is on an urgent or non-elective basis.

To address the issues that exist, the clinical expert panel recommended the following for patients requiring non-elective cardiac surgery:

  • Mandatory use of an electronic referral system for non-elective inter-hospital transfer patients
  • Agreed evidence-based clinical protocols
  • The panel also proposed that waiting times are monitored.

Waits should not exceed the following standards for 90% of firth time CABG patients:

  • The total pathway length should not exceed 21 days
  • The time between admission to the local hospital and referral to a surgical unit should not exceed five days
  • Time between referral and transfer should not exceed five days
  • Length of stay at the surgical centre should be 11 days or less.
