REVASCULARISATION
A Revascularisation sub-group of the Network was established early
on to take forward work in relation to this area. To inform their work
plan, the Network commissioned an initial piece of work to review the
burden of coronary heart disease and revascularisation rates across
the Network. <CLICK

Following this assessment, the Revascularisation group focused on delivering
two main strands of work a) the development of a sector wide model for
the delivery of a Primary Angioplasty service to all NW London residents
and b) the reduction in delays for in-patient DGH transfers requiring
admission for Angiography +/- Angioplasty, Electrophysiology, Device
implants or Surgery.

Developments in NW London
A. PRIMARY ANGIOPLASTY
The agreed model for delivery of Primary Angioplasty focused on St Mary's and
Hammersmith Hospitals providing a service for residents of inner NW London with
residents from outer NW London being served by Harefield Hospital. A stepwise
approach was taken to rolling out the service such that by October 2005 all NW
London residents had access to a 24 hours a day, 7 days per week Primary Angioplasty
service, replacing thrombolysis as the dominant form of treatment for STEMI.

also selected by the DH as one of the 8 national pilots to assess feasibility
of rolling out such a service across the country.
